Bebe's Kids: Baby Mama Battle

I love "Bebe's Kids". I always laugh at the Baby Mama battle, though the movie itself is really funny. Click here to watch it on youtube

Thought: Chris Brown Beating Rhianna Was Not A Mistake

I thought I would never write about the Chris Brown and Rhianna situation, but the recent support for his actions is really creeping me out. I've heard countless times on radio stations and read on blogs that people believe that Chris made a "mistake"and he's still a boy and not yet a man. Its sounds like they're saying, metaphorically, he went to the grocery store and bought apples instead of oranges like he was supposed to. He made a mistake but its okay (sarcasm). Beating another person is not a mistake. I don't hate Chris Brown, given his family history of abuse, I feel sorry for him viewing his mother being physically abused and continuing the tradition towards his girlfriend. I hope he receives counseling or what every form of therapy that will help prevent him from hitting other women But I don't think he should get a pass because he is only 20 and a celebrity.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor

Congratulations Sonia Sotomayor. She is making history becoming the first Hispanic, first Puerto-Rican, First Latina, and third woman to be confirmed into the U.S. Supreme Court!!!! (Why does this year feel like "THE" year for people of color in politics?" Thank you to the Senate for voting her in the Supreme Court and Thank you to Sonia for being yet another example of achieving one's dreams despite one's upbringing, race, gender, etc. and being an inspiration to all women, especially Latina's and for women of all shades of brown.

Just Writing: What Does It Mean to be Black?

Here's my definition of an Black/African-American person: someone who is of African descent. I think the some people within the mainstream media and the black media have made it into a lifestyle more than an ethnicity, but I just see it as a simple box one person's checks when they're participating in a race survery for the U.S. Census. I feel like some people want to put a face (ONE FACE) to being African-American, and that's just not possible, we're too diverse.

Thought: A Train Ride One Morning

A couple of weeks ago, on the train on my way to work, I overheard a couple of teens talking. I'm guessing they were from an affluent suburb by their conversation: talking about what famous people in their neighborhood? what high schools they go to?, etc. Anyway, they happened to start talking about Newark, NJ (the city I was born and raised it), talking so much trash about it it made them seem so shallow and annoying. It didn't help that they were all white either. I don't understand how people with so much privilege, access to great education could sound so stupid. If they were really were as wealthy as their were saying to be, they wouldn't be taking public transportation to go anywhere. It just really irritates me when I hear suburban kids talk trash about inner cities, cities in general.
